Tennessee Titans - Expectations This Season

The Tennessee Titans always find ways to win. They may not be the best team on paper, but they battle it in every game.

However, 2022 could be the year their playoff streak will end. Derrick Henry again emerges as a dominating force in the ground game, but for how long? Likewise, the improvement of the other teams in the AFC will make it tough for the Titans to be part of the postseason scene.

Henry is the heart and soul of the Tennessee offense as he tried to bounce back from missed games last season. The Titans squad also includes quarterback Ryan Tannehill and tight end Geoff Swaim. Their receiving corps features Robert Woods, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Kyle Philips. Ben Jones and Dennis Daley are their top players on the offensive line.

The Titans defensive unit has playmakers like Jeffery Simmons, Harold Landry III, Denico Autry, Ola Adeniyi, Zack Cunningham, Bud Dupree, Amani Hooker, and Kevin Byard. Randy Bullock is their placekicker, and Ryan Stonehouse is their punter.

While Tennessee might not be a dead cert to reach the playoffs this year, if they can find their form then the Titans may be worth looking at for fans of NFL betting, potentially providing good value especially if they can cause a few upsets.

Tennessee Titans - Recent Form & Highlights

The team didn’t get off to the best start this year, losing their first two games against the New York Giants and the Buffalo Bills. However the Titans found their feet for a 3-2 record in their first five games.

In recent seasons the Titans have clinched three straight playoff berths, which is a testament to the coaching prowess of Mike Vrabel. They also won the AFC South in two of those instances, and Vrabel is yet to have a losing record with the Titans.

Unfortunately, they have come up short during the playoffs, like losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 AFC Championship game. Likewise, they haven’t won a playoff game in 2020 and 2021.

About The Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans were established as the Houston Oilers in 1959 as an American Football League charter member. They moved to Tennessee in 1997 and changed their moniker to the Titans in 1999. While the franchise won the first two AFL championships, their NFL story has been heartbreaking.

They lost back-to-back AFC Championship games in 1978 and 1979 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then, they lost Super Bowl XXXIV when Mike Jones tackled Kevin Dyson at the one-yard line. The Titans also lost the 2002 AFC Championship game to eventual Super Bowl champions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite those setbacks, the Titans have 11 division titles and 25 playoff appearances.

Owned by Amy Adams Strunk, the daughter of the late Bud Adams who originally founded the team, the Titans have a valuation of about $3.5 billion, ranking them 27th among NFL franchises.

The Titans currently play their games at Nissan Stadium. It opened in 1999 and can accommodate up to 69,143 spectators. Titans fans are devoted supporters of their squad, and every home game has a communal feeling. The team’s tenacity combined with the crowd’s noise make it difficult for opposing teams to find success.

During their AFL days, the Titans had a historic rivalry with the Buffalo Bills. For a brief period, they were also rivals with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. Aside from those teams, the Titans have rivalries with their fellow AFC South teams. The Titans lead their all-time series against the Houston Texans, 22-18. They also lead their all-time series with the Jacksonville Jaguars, 34-21.

Finally, the Titans have an intense rivalry with the Indianapolis Colts because they are the top teams in the division. The Colts lead their series, 35-21, but the Titans have won five of their last six meetings.
